Lego Thunderbird (in Progress #2)

Finally decided to upload these pictures. Summer semester has started and I'm watching as all my time just evaporates from the intense work load.
The Thunderbird Lego jet is still in progress. I thought I could finish it, but there is still much to be done on the hull and undercarriage, the multitude of nukes, torpedoes, bullets, and missiles and finishing the turbine portions of the engines. But so far, it is somewhere over 25 lbs, over 4 ft long, over 3 wide and over 2 high. It is now larger than most kids who build with Legos- (one of my goals achieved! :P ). In the first photo, again, another size comparison as well as you can see a white Lego frame built. It is there temporarily so that I don't knock it over when adding pieces.
So, until I return back to Iowa for another break, the Thunderbird will just have to wait for another time to be completed!

World of Warcraft figurine and the Lego Thunderbird progress

Here are some in progress photos of the Thunderbird before I have to leave it be until my next break from school. I usually show myself in these photos so you can get an idea of its scale (and why it is taking some time). The tail is yet to be truly connected (white Lego blocks are holding it in its likely place for the moment) as well as the side guns (being held up by the containers). Thankfully, though, this break I was able to prop the model onto a stand and connect the heavy wings. To be finished as well is the remaining fuselage and engines plus the hundreds of bullets, nukes, torpedoes, and missiles.

During this break I finally got my Alathena Moonbreeze W.O.W. action figurine, but in a series of frustrating circumstances ended up with two. So what to do with the other? Paint it of course! The purple skinned one is the original version. The black, white, gold and pheonix colored version is mine. It was a lot of fun and worth it as I now have an entirely unique figurine that can be found no where else. As always, enjoy and look forward to work from this coming semester!

The Giants of the Past

Finally, the Global Ghalad (the second Lego version- the first was very blocky and someday I will post that up for entertaining reasons :P). This model took a year as well to figure things out and construct. It is over 3 feet long and around 15lbs.
A view of the FFVII collection I created based off of the game amidst my Lego collection before it doubled in size shortly after. All of these 4 models took a year to plan out and construct.
The Highwind from FFVII the video game was quite a daunting task to construct. It is exactly 4 feet long and weighs 23-25lbs. It was physically exhausting as at some points I had to hold the 20lb top half for up to hours at a time as I assembled it to the bottom half and constructed supports for the legs.
One of my most favorite creations: The Rebel Observatory and Gaurd Post. Built in 2003 it was my last allowed submission into my hometown's Lego contest during Tivoli Fest before they only allowed me to display instead of enter the contest. As you can see in this it won best of show. This probably took a couple of months to construct.
These are some images I found recently of the Lego giants I had built in the past. I have a pretty large collection of Legos (estimated to be about over 1 ton in weight worth!) I usually build on a fairly large scale as it provides a challenge as well as there is more I can do on a large scale. The blue and yellow canopy airship above actually took one week to build and was probably 13-15lbs!

"Hey, Mr. Spaceman."

Here is the last Lego creation from my winter break before I pack him up and go back to school. I've been taking a strong interest in the men who ventured to the moon and anything space and sci-fi space lately. I wanted to build in the last three days (how long it took to build this little guy) and was messing around with various pieces while I listened to the Halo soundtrack. Slowly but surely I made this guy. It is supposed to be a heavy duty deep space exosuit. In short- an awesome astronaut suit! It will be four more months before my next break- I'll miss building with Legos. They are always a lot of fun and a great outlet for creativity.

Last Artwork of 2008- The Lego Space Fighter

Finally the Lego space fighter is finished! This also is my very last artwork of 2008. Not a bad way to end the year. I've left a picture with myself next to the model for you to get an idea of its size. You can see in my previous post what this is based off of. What I thought was cool was that the entire time I used no reference and somehow was able to pull off a fighter jet like appearance. I still have yet to figure out its name. Hope you enjoy it and enjoy your last moments of 2008. Happy New Year and see you in 2009!

Legos over the winter break

Usually during my breaks between semesters I have the opportunity to get back into my old and favorite pass-time and medium to work in: building with Legos. Here is work in progress of a spaceship inspired by a model I made when I was in 1st grade 14 years ago and newer drawings of the ship. It is also supposed to be a ship in a sci-fi edge of the universe story based on the book of Revelations. I find it is more enjoyable and easier to create Lego models as well as other art when I have a dynamic story playing out in my mind. This model should be completed in the next week or so- usually doesn't take too long to create one of these. The only reason something like this would take so much time is that a majority of the model is made up as I go. Hopefully you like it! Have a wonderful Christmas Eve and a great Christmas tomorrow. What a blessed day it is to remember He came and why He came!
