In Illustration 1 in class we were supposed to use landscape reference- change it up- and create our own landscape and paint it in gouache. The piece is 6in x 8in and only took about 2 and 1/2 hours to paint. I am so glad that I've learned these new techniques in gouache and that Christ has given this gift to make art which is so much fun! I see that I keep improving more and more and it is just exciting to progress!

Drawing choirs was a very challenging experience considering how many there were and the short amount of time I had to draw them.
Recently I took a short weekend trip to the Midwest as it amazingly did not cost too much and was able to visit my old friend and celebrate her 21st birthday! It was a lot of fun and definitely a trip that God had planned me to take as it has helped my faith tremendously as I stood amazed by the strength of my friend and her friends in their faith in Christ! While on this awesome excursion I was able to get in some drawings- like the 9hours I was stuck at Denver even though there weren't many people to draw there. Plus a marching band and football game (in the bitter cold!- it's hard to sketch when your body is shaking from the cold.) and even two large choirs! All in all it was pretty awesome to say the least!

Here is another Illustration 1 project. We had to use a myth, fable, or popular novel. I chose to do 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne and used a small excerpt from it to illustrate. There were many steps in creating this final, but above is a refined, full scale value study I did to ensure a better result for the final. To get to this point includes lots of reference, thumbnails, value studies, and color roughs before approaching the final. Hope you enjoy!

I liked how this one turned out. Took my time with it, but had fun and hopefully stands as a good piece for the level I am at, although I do look forward to improving in the next year and a half here at school.

I should post this up before I forget about it and get bogged down with homework this semester. This was an assignment for Illustration 1 with a toy on a patterned surface with either warm or cool light- I chose to use my Metabot action figure with warm light in front of my computer with a made up pattern and fake object near the computer. It was done in gouache which I have not used in a long time and was approached in the ever-so-lovely Color and Design application of the paint (for those of you who know the pain of that process >D ) It seemed to turn out well. Hope you like it.

this is a first! I started with the hand and worked right and successfully pulled off the 5minute pose!
The Academy of Art University holds a Costume Carnival every Fall and Spring semester. This one came today, the day after Halloween. Zombies, dead cowboys, sorcerers, post-apocalyptic punks, and cool looking stands which I had the fun opportunity setting up with spiderwebs, draperies, cauldrons, throne rooms, graveyards, etc. It was a lot of fun and I got in 24 drawings today!! Not all are posted- some weren't successful, but these are some of those that I found most enjoyable. Hope you enjoy it too and that you had a great Halloween weekend!
